About ten years ago, I was on my own. I was living in Florida at the time, and I was doing mobile massage — driving to people's houses, table in the trunk, one client at a time. No storefront, no staff, no website. Just me and a phone that rang when it rang.
It was all word of mouth. Someone would tell a friend, that friend would tell another friend, and that's how my calendar filled up — when it filled up. And honestly, the work itself was great. I loved it. But I could never have supported a family on it.
